WICKLOW REGATTA FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 130TH YEAR

Issued 24th July 2008
This year’s Wicklow Regatta Festival
takes place in Wicklow Town from Friday, 25th July to
Monday 4th August. The festival, now in its 130th year,
promises to be a feast for the senses, with fun that all
the family can enjoy.
This year activities and attractions include the Coast
to Coast Funfair on the Fair Green, Junior and Senior
Battle of the Bands in the Grand Hotel, Bike and Scooter
Rally on the Murrough, Farmers’ Market at the Church
Street car park and Air Guitar Championships in the
Bridge Tavern.
There will also be a raft race starting at the New Pier,
a tug o’war on the green at Leitrim Place and a Street
Carnival (and official opening) in the Market Square,
featuring local singing sensation Robyn Kavanagh.
There will be plenty of fun for children to enjoy
including free pony rides on Leitrim Place, golly
fishing at Parnell Bridge and Irish dancing with
Christine Dunne School of Dancing at Leitrim Place, plus
many many more events to entertain all ages!
As part of the festivities, there will also be the
annual Regatta Queen Competition 2008, where last year’s
winner Jennifer Commiskey will hand over the crown to
one lucky girl, to be picked from seven contestants.
