007 VISITS THE GARDEN COUNTY

James Bond star Roger Moore surprised locals when he dropped by the Leitrim Lounge in Wicklow Town for lunch and a pint of Guinness last Tuesday (3rd August).

The actor was touring the sights and scenery of the Garden County as part of his summer holidays in Ireland with his wife Christina.

Owner of the Leitrim Lounge, Clifford Dowling, said that the actor was ‘an absolute gentleman’.

“When he first came in I went over and introduced myself. I told him that I was a big James Bond fan and said that I thought he was the best Bond, and he said to me, ‘I don’t think Sean Connery would be too happy with that!’ A few people asked him for autographs but no one bothered him while he had his lunch, which he enjoyed very much.”

Although the star had never visited the county before, he told Clifford that his wife who is from Sweden has links with Wicklow, having worked here over thirty years ago.

Clifford added that the star said he was thoroughly enjoying his break in Wicklow.
