RHYMES AND FAIRY TALES AT NEWCASTLE SUMMER FAIR

Issued 01 July 2008
Wicklow County Tourism is delighted
to announce that the Parish of Newcastle and
Newtownmountkennedy is holding its summer fair on
Saturday 5th July from 12noon to 4pm. The venue is the
old fair green on Church Lane next to the church, and
this year the theme is Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes.
Characters from fairy tales and nursery rhymes will be
manning the usual stalls such as cakes, plants, toys,
books, bric-a-brac and sweetshop, and there will also be
a myriad of attractions to keep the whole family happy.
Mother Goose will be on duty in the storytelling tent to
keep the little ones entertained while older children
can take part in all sorts of races, play hoopla, knock
Humpty Dumpty off the wall, enter the obstacle course
and have their faces painted.
Children of all ages are welcome to take part in the
fancy dress competition at 1pm and, if you have no
children, why not enter your handsome canine in the dog
competition taking place at 2pm. All the family can
enjoy Play Your Cards Right, Alice In Wonderland
croquet, golf, gladiators, enter the raffle, and bring
along a scarecrow for the Wizard of Oz scarecrow
competition.
One special attraction will be Guess The Weight of
Cinderella and The Ugly Sisters – look closely and you
may recognise those sisters! Lunches will be served from
12pm to 2pm and teas from 2pm to 4pm. Crowning of the
King and Queen of the Fair, draws, and presentation of
prizes from 3.30pm.
This year the parish has been lucky enough to secure the
services of Scott Williams of Q102 to be MC for the day.
So why not enjoy a family day out - visit the Newcastle
