KILCOOLE CHURCH

This is a rather 12th century church. It is a nave and chancel structure. The church stands in a quadrangular graveyard which contains a large number of early 18th century gravestones. The chancel probably once had a step-pitched stone roof with a small attic roof over the chancel. The nave has a small round - headed window in the south wall. The western portion of the church was added later as a two-storey living quarters. A 'holy well', 100 m to the north - east, consisting of a natural spring was associated in local tradition with the church.
